Today SixApart posted an open call for feedback concerning MovableType’s new licensing scheme.
“If free isn’t an issue for you and you’re willing to pay for a version of Movable Type (say the $69 version) and the blog/author limits won’t work for your current use, write a non-emotional post explaining how you’re using Movable Type and TrackBack this entry.”
They want your input! If the latest changes to their product took you by surprise we highly recommend letting them know.
In lieu of two spotlight sites we’d like to take the time to wish Christy and Brian a big congratulations on their wedding that took place this past weekend. Their site includes photos and a wedding diary among other things. A wedding blog is a great way to keep your family your family informed of events you have planned and is the best way to share those (sometimes hundreds) of wedding photos.
We wish you both the best and look forward to lots photos from the big day as well as the honeymoon!
As promised the Spamhaus S/XBL has been added back to all servers. All customers should once again notice a dramatic decrease in the spam that they receive. Thanks for your patience!
Yesterday SixApart announced that they are looking for people to alpha test MovableType 3.0. If you’re interested, they ask you use their contact form and let them know:
1. What version will you be upgrading from?
2. How many total comments are in your installation? (per weblog)
3. Will you enable comment registration? If no, why not?
4. The URL for your weblog(s)
We’re excited to see 3.0 edging closer to release and are glad the public will be involved in testing.
We finally have the capacity to do proper recurring billing. This is especially good news for customers that enjoy paying monthly as it will eliminate the need for them to login and manually pay invoices. If you are interested in converting your billing profile to automatic recurring billing please let us know. Be sure to include the full name on the account as well as your domain somewhere in the email. All new account sign-ups completed from today onward will take advantage of this by default.
If you have any questions about this please let us know.
I’ve noticed some confusion regarding our multiple domain packages so I thought I’d attempt to clear it up. All of our plans support multiple domains. The Gold, Platinum, and Ultimate packages include them by default. These packages are designed to allow those with more than one site an easy an inexpensive way to host them from one environment.
Lets say you own foo.com but you also own two completely unrelated domains: bar.com and gigo.com. You want to host all of these with us. If you were to sign up with the Gold plan you would simply add these domains via your control panel. A new directory would be created for you to place the files for the new domain. You would also have control over the subdomains, email addresses, and more for the “addon” domains.
You also have the option to “park” these domains instead. Parking allows you to use different domain names to point to your same site. Lets say you owned foo.com, foo.org, and foo.net. You want all of these to point to the same site. You would simply add the names via your control panel and you would be done.
So the multiple domain packages give you two options for what to do with your extra domains and allows you to manage them all from one simple interface. If you have any questions or would like clarification on any of this please let us know.
(Note: For power users any package can be setup in a reseller environment allowing you to create separate cPanel logins for your extra domains. We are happy to set this up for free by request.)
